Description:	State Farm, the country`s leading issuer of automobile insurance, operates a Web offering supporting instant online quotes for auto, renters and life insurance. As of the time of our review, State Farm had not yet implemented instant online quotes for the company`s homeowners insurance policies and existing policyholders could not visit the State Farm site to view or make changes to their policies (though this feature is expected to be available in the very near future).
Benefits:	State Farm distinguishes its offering in part by allowing property and auto policy holders to initiate claims through the site; a feature not yet available at half the sites on the Scorecard. State Farm offers instant online quoting for nearly its entire coverage area, and the firm is working aggressively to roll out online purchase capabilities for consumers in select states (though this feature was not available during the time of our review.)
Shortfalls:	As of our most recent review, State Farm`s online offering did not support online policy access or service requests. Consumers needing information on the status of a payment or seeking to change the details on a policy (e.g., adding/removing a driver) will need to pick up a telephone or visit their local agent. While an agent-locator tool on the site expedites this process, the customer is not yet totally in the driver`s seat. Finally, State Farm does not offer instant online auto quotes for residents of WV, NC, NJ RI, DE and HI, and the firm is not currently issuing new policies in MA.
